Hi, I'm Andy the Development Officer for 2024-2025.
If you're a beginner or someone wanting to join our club then I'll be your point of contact through your initial sessions and beyond. If you ever have any questions at all then drop me a message on our club email - BristolCityKorfball@gmail.com - I'll be keen to help you out with anything korf/bckc related!
There's also some really useful info I've put together below - please feel free to read at your leisure:
We are currently:
Training indoors in City Academy (Aug 24 - Apr 2).
Beginners are welcome on the first Wednesday of every month (please check session sign up for the next open session).
First 2 sessions are free!
Sessions start at roughly 7.35pm and end at 9.05pm
Please sign up in advance as usual.
If you have any questions then please get in touch via BristolCityKorfball@gmail.com.
We ask all beginners to please sign up to sessions in advance, until they have joined us as full members.
You can often sign up using our session sign up form or by dropping us an email at BristolCityKorfball@gmail.com.
If you've signed up on meetup then that's enough - we will be expecting you.
Alternatively you can join our non-members WhatsApp group and pop a like on that weeks sign up message to show you'll be there.
Please always let us know you'll be attending in advance so we can let the coach know to expect you.
So you've decided to join us at your first session and you're wondering what to expect...
First make sure you've let us know you'll be attending (see above).
Don't worry if you don't know anything! There's a few resources you can check out on our site (and loads more via google), but we fully expect you to turn up with no experience. There will be plenty of people to help you out on the day.
Your first session is free! Our offering changes year on year and varies throughout the season as well, but our first session for beginners is always free.
Please don't forget to wear suitable sports kit and shoes. Korfball is very active so you want to wear something you are comfortable moving/running in.
Please bring plenty of water - it gets hot!
Come to the pub! We tend to have a small group of people that go to the pub after sessions, particularly those that beginners are invited to. We'd love if you can pop for a drink with us afterwards so we can get to know you better.
After you have attended your first month of sessions, a representative of the club will be in touch about officially joining us.
We will discuss payment options, add you to our WhatsApp group and if in season, sign you up to our matchday applications. You will then be removed from the mailing list, and will no longer need to sign up to sessions in advance.
If no one gets in touch then feel free to email me or another member of the committee to chase it up!
Whilst we have tournaments and matches all year round, our competitive season usually runs from September until March/April. We really encourage all of our members to give matches a go, as it is truly the best way to learn the sport (and makes it all worth it!).
During this time we switch everyone over to direct debit, which includes 2 sessions a week, weekend match fees, insurance fees and affiliation fees. Our approach is simply to tally costs and divide by number of members, as we never intend to make a profit. This usually works out at ~£35-40 a month for these months, depending on membership numbers.
